PNSA unites for Universal Hand Hygiene, targets Germ-free Learning Environment
The Philippine Nursing Student Association (PNSA) NWU chapter conducted a health education and demonstration of proper hand washing to the Grade 3 and 4 pupils of the university in celebrating the Global Handwashing Day on October 21, 2022 at the Grade 3 classroom, Rufina Mariano Building, Northwestern University.
Handwashing, the first line of defense to prevent the spread of any illnesses plays an integral role of infection prevention for everyone. As promoters of healthcare, the PNSA came forefront.
Ms. Kathrina Reyes, PNSA ; Janessa Gaspar, PNSA Vice President Internal ; Charlo Calivo, PNSA Provost Marshal; and Nica Alcid, PNSA Level 3 Representative spearheaded the said event.
They were able to organize the activity by delivering health teachings, demonstration, and application of the basic information to the pupils about the proper way of hand washing. Health kits were also distributed to each participants containing antibacterial soap, towelette cloth, ethyl alcohol, and three pieces of kid’s face masks.“ Handwashing is part of our everyday lives. As the pandemic is not yet over, it is our obligation to make ourselves healthy and strong and by doing this program, it promotes and maintain the protective measures we must do. This aims to raise awareness and give young students information about the importance of hand-washing,” Janessa Gaspar said.
Moreover, Ms. Kathrina Reyes stressed the importance of teaching the youth about the proper hand washing. “Proper hand washing in the first place is a standard precaution. A simple handwashing can save you and your loved ones lives. It is a common knowledge that hand washing will help eradicate and prevent bacteria and sickness,” she stated.
“At a young age, youth should be trained in protecting themselves against disease born bacteria through so many ways. But the most convenient and cause efficient way to do so is by proper hand washing. It is crucial to keep them vigilant and well aware for knowledge is power, as they say. A well informed youth is an asset to the community. A strong and healthy people makes a strong healthy republic,” Ms. Reyes added.
