Panagsapata 2022 features Resilient Student Leaders
Northwestern University (NWU), through the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and Supreme Student Council (SSC), organized Panagsapata 2022, the annual oath-taking ceremony of student leaders, on February 28, 2022, at Aquino Multi-purpose Center with the theme “Standing Strong at 90: Countdown to the first 100 years of NWU.”
The event was attended by the different student leaders from the department and college organizations of the university. It is the first time since the pandemic that the oath-taking ceremony was held face-to-face and at the same time through Zoom Videoconferencing App.
Dr. Chita A. Gonzales, Vice President for Academic Affairs, conveys her words of welcome to the participants.
“I am encouraging all of you to use this opportunity to develop your skills as leaders and to make a positive contribution to the university and to the community,” said Dr. Gonzales.
“Congratulations and let’s work together to make Northwestern University the best community ever,” Dr. Gonzales added.
A message for the student leaders was delivered by Atty. Ferdinand S. Nicolas, University President.
”Leadership is not about the leader; it is about the people whom we serve. It is servant leadership that we teach here at Northwestern University, and definitely by volunteering your time in this endeavor, in this very difficult time is already a sacrifice on your part, and I congratulate you for that,” held Atty. Nicolas.
“Thank you for offering your competence, your leadership skills during this time that we are still adapting to the new normal and that we are still trying to determine our way out and to conduct our operations safely,” Atty. Nicolas added.
Mr. Rafael Salvatiera, SSC Adviser, introduced Cong. Ria Christina Fariñas, 1st District Representative of the Province of Ilocos Norte represented by Councilor Roger John “RJ” Fariñas II of the City Government of Laoag as the guest of honor and inducting officer of the event.
Councilor Fariñas presented the different programs of the office of Cong. Ria Christina Fariñas, especially in the education sector. Furthermore, he discussed the importance of duties and responsibilities as student leaders that will be beneficial as we proceed to our chosen careers.
Ivy Karla Grande, SSC President for the AY. 2021-2022 delivered her Inaugural Address.
“Leadership has no time limit, no pauses, no rest, and it is something that you sleep and wake up to every day. In student leadership, selflessness is an understatement at its fullest,” said Grande.
“If we ever do not meet your expectations, I ask for your full cooperation this time. Whereas, our unity will be the secret to our success in this journey,” Grande added.
Prof. Agustina A. Dancel-Matias, OSA Acting Dean, delivered her closing remarks.
”Let us once again put our hands together, our minds together, and that unite all our efforts, actions toward making Northwestern University reach its glorious years towards its 100 years.
