Obra ken Pabuya: The Review curates art and talent exhibit
In line with the celebration of the university foundation anniversary, The Review, the official student publication of Northwestern University (NWU), with the coordination of the College of Engineering and Technology Student Organization (CEATSO), the United Architects of the Philippines Student Auxiliary (UAPSA) – NWU Chapter, and Saguday Performing Arts Group organized the OBRA ken PABUYA art exhibit with the theme, “Standing Strong at 90: Countdown to the First 100 Years of NWU” at Robinsons Place Ilocos on April 1-3, 2022.
The opening program and the ribbon-cutting ceremony were conducted on its 1st day, April 1, 2022. It was attended by Atty. Ferdinand S. Nicolas, University President; Dr. Chita Gonzales, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Prof. Karl Lenin C. Benigno, Vice President for Administration; Prof. Agustina A. Dancel-Matias, the Acting Dean of the Student Affairs; Engr. Rolly C. Ramos, Dean of the CEAT, students, and faculty members.
“As part of the 90th foundation anniversary, this is our participation in that. As we create union through visual art, multiple arts. As we create beautiful fields, we can also say how good and wonderful these are. To the students, we are happy to see you once again. To everyone, we are inviting you to partake of the beauty of all the artworks presented here” said Atty. Nicolas on his message.
On its 2nd day, April 2, 2022, the exhibit continues to be visited by students from NWU and other institutions, shoppers, and other visitors. There are also staff and students who have the courage to share their talents, entertain, and show that NWU is home to gifted students. The Saguday Marching Band and the Saguday Dance Troupe have also joined the exhibit to amuse and serenade everyone.
On its last day, April 3, 2022, Saguday Chorale and After 5 Band showcased their talents. Additionally, this is also the closing program of the exhibit. Plaque of Appreciation and Certificates are given to certain departments and chosen individuals who contributed to the success of this event.
Mr. Rexmith Pugyao, CEATSO President said, “Obra ken Pabuya is an eye-opener to everyone that we the architecture students are not just about “drawing drawing lang” but we are exceptional and talented. This event was inspiring, it encouraged everyone to bring out what they’ve got. As the president of the CEATSO, I am honored and grateful to be part of this success. It’s such an amazing experience.”
Ms. Lyka Ramones, UAPSA NWU Chapter President, said “Exposure, Promotion, and Experience. After 2 years of OL activities, we were given this opportunity to showcase once again our gifts and talents as young artists. The pandemic has indeed robbed us of the opportunities and activities we should have taken, but it made us realize what really matters and that is to improve and prepare ourselves for something bigger and greater.”
“Through the Obra ken Pabuya, new faces and talents have been brought out into public and it helped us gain back the glory that has been forgotten. We also hoped, that aspiring architects will come and experience the fun and learning in our institution and that the number of students in the Architecture Department, will once again increase,” she added.
“Planning and executing this project is not easy; however, hearing positive feedback from the visitors and seeing the effort of my fellow students make this event worth it and memorable. These student artists and performers deserve all the exposure and recognition for their outputs and expertise. It is a successful event, definitely not the last one. See you next year for the Obra ken Pabuya 2.0,” said Jezreel Larry R. Caunca, The Review Editor-in-Chief.
