NWU studs, alum join AFS Global Competence Certificate Program
The students and alumni of Northwestern University (NWU) join the Global Competence Certificate (GCC) Program of AFS Intercultural Programs from April to June 2021 (First Batch) and December 2021 to February 2022 (Second Batch) via Bridge Learning Management System and Zoom Videoconferencing App.
GCC aims to be a blended learning program that develops tangible global skills essential to living, working, and making a real social impact around the world. It also empowers students and faculty with tangible global competence skills that are fundamental to building just and peaceful societies─ and essential to living, learning, working, and volunteering in diverse settings at home and around the world.
More than 10,000 universities, interns, and international students from 50 countries have utilized the program, which is research-backed to help them build their intercultural competence and global capabilities.
The first batch of participants are Hervin M. Pagdilao, Bachelor in Public Administration; Eliza Magdalene Parel, Grade 9 – Junior High School; Ana Mae R. Manuel, Alumna of Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSE); Therese A. Dancel, Alumna of Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management (BSHRM-LEP); and Felirose Patigdas, Alumna of Bachelor of Elementary Education (BED).[D1]
“My goal in life is to become a professional teacher in Elementary, and to be known as one of the most thoughtful and understanding teachers to my students. I want to become a tool and inspiration for them in fulfilling their dreams. I believe that the Global Competence Certificate (GCC) Program would greatly help me achieve my goals. The program will help develop my understanding and compassion to my students in the future,” Patigdas said.
The second batch of participants are Marie Rose B. Cabel, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) II; Jezreel Larry R. Caunca, Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (BAPS) III; Stephanie Therese Santos, Bachelor of Science in Psychology IV; Vivian G. Casil, BAPS IV; Nuelina Mhae T. Sebastian, Bachelor of Science in Tourism III; Mark Dio Felix Palcon, BSHM-Cruise Management IV; Jonathan A. Go, BSE IV; and Joseph Ryan G. Marcelino, Alumnus of BAPS.
“The AFS GCC Program is a well-thought program and very timely. It gives hope that will make those who took the challenge and be part of it that when things get better, they will be at their best,” Prof. Agustina Dancel-Matias, Acting Dean of the Office of the Student Affairs, said.
