NWU honors Eight Outstanding Alumni

Northwestern University (NWU) held the NWU 2022 Alumni Awards to honor the eight alumni of the university. The said event was conducted through NWU’s Facebook Page on March 24, 2022.

“In different fields of expertise, not only [did] they make their marks in their chosen professions, [but] they have modeled excellence in service, competence in their field, and most of all, their accomplishments have enriched the lives of people around them. So to all of our honorees, congratulations, we salute you, and may you serve [as] a shining light for our alumni, our students, and for all,” said Atty. Ferdinand S. Nicolas, University President, as he welcomed the viewers.

The awardees were Atty. Manuel Flores Aurelio, a retired prosecutor and the Dean of the College of Law; Mr. Ariston Arellano Lorenzo, an English and Literature Instructor/Assistant Professor II of Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU); Sonia Padua Alaba- Executive Assistant to Chief Financial Officer of Kuwait Company for Process Plant Construction and Contracting (KCPC), Kuwait and Middle East; Mr. Randy Antonio Laoat, the Municipal Vice Mayor of Pudtol, Apayao; Prof. Charliemane A. Bullalayao- NWU Head of Nursing Department; Dr. Karen Marcelino, the College Secretary of MMSU’s College of Nursing; Mr. Henry B. Afaga, a travel nurse at Clinical Resource Wilson Medical Center of New York; and Mr. Oliver Cadiente, the Director of Admission and Academic Development and Co-owner of the Canadian Health and Business College.

Words of gratitude were expressed by the awardees as they received their awards.

“With all humility, I accept the award that Northwestern University is giving this humble self. But I have not done anything by myself. I came here on a mission given by God,” said Atty. Aurelio.

“Congratulations Northwestern University for keeping your commitment to provide light to every student with your burning torch. And here I am, a living proof of that promise,” said Mr. Lorenzo.

Mrs. Alaba stated that being a product of NWU brings a defining factor of pride and excellence. On the other hand, Prof. Bullalayao said that he was overwhelmed with gratitude that he had been selected to receive the award.

“Rest assured that I’ll continue to uphold the vision, mission, and objectives of the university,” Prof. Bullalayao added.

Dr. Marcelino acknowledged NWU as a seat of wisdom because it molded his being until he became professional. Meanwhile, Mr. Afaga said, “I’m very flattered to be nominated and recognized as one of the outstanding alumni of our beloved alma mater, Northwestern University.”

“Thank you Northwestern University, you are indeed a fountain of knowledge in achieving [the] accomplishment of every student dreams,” said Mr. Cadiente.

“The alumni are indeed one of the strong pillars of Northwestern University… To all the outstanding alumni whom we have acknowledged this day, I once [extend] more my warmest congratulations to all of you. May you carry on making Northwestern University an outstanding beacon of learning as it is today,” said Dr. Roseli T. Aurelio, Vice President of the NWU Alumni Association-NWU Chapter in her closing remarks.
