NWU, A-PAD ink MOU, fortify DRRM

Northwestern University (NWU), led by Atty. Ferdinand S. Nicolas, University President, signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management Philippines (A-PAD) on March 8, 2021. The two institutions signed an agreement to strengthen the APAD Alliance collaboration and to improve NWU’s ability in disaster risk reduction and management.

The A-PAD includes members from the Philippines, Bangladesh, India, South Korea, Indonesia, and other countries around the globe.

Prof. Karl Lenin C. Benigno, Chairman of the Disaster Task Force and Vice President for Administration, stated in an interview that the international alliance is beneficial in that it raises disaster preparedness awareness and improves the skills of teachers and students in disaster education and planning.

A-PAD seeks to enhance the capacity of the private sector in disaster management. The said organization is a private- non-profit international organization established and supported by the Japan Government.

“Being a member of the A-PAD alliance will strengthen the university’s network and collaboration with local and international organizations for disaster management and will also enhance the capacity of the school in disaster planning. It is a guarantee to students and all stakeholders that the university is prepared for any eventualities and resilient amid disasters,” Prof. Benigno added when asked about the benefits of the MOU to the NWU students and faculty members.
