COBEst receives two Intl Research Conference Awards

The College of Business Education (COBE) students received two Best Presentation Awards during the International Conference on Multidisciplinary Research on Sustainability Innovation (ICMRSI), organized by Universitas Persada Indonesia Y.A.I and Research Synergy Foundation (RSF), held on February 14-15, 2022, via Facebook Live and Zoom Videoconferencing App.

The conference aspires to promote a global forum for exchanging and sharing ideas and research. Also, to extend collaboration in the field of research ecosystems and networks. There are 81 research studies in several tracks from 13 different countries that participated in the said event, namely: Indonesia. Philippines, Malaysia, Yemen, Morocco, Mongolia, Pakistan, Thailand, Nigeria. Oman, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Afghanistan, China, and India.

The two groups of researchers from COBE presented their study and defended it successfully. During the first day of ICMRSI, Joshua Bry Peralta Agag, a fourth-year student taking up a Bachelor in Science in Business Administration, Major in Human Resource Management, received the Best Presentation Awards in the human resources track. On the other hand, Grachiel Domingo Ancheta, a fourth-year student taking up a Bachelor of Business Administration, Major in Marketing Management, received the Best Presentation Awards in the management track.

The research titled “Effects of Internet Marketing on the Consumer Buying Behavior of Food Business,” presented by Grachiel Domingo Ancheta, Patrick Ian Pascual Alonzo, Jessie Amiel Roldan, Danielle Castillo Basilio, and John Davidson Aranda.

“Our research focuses on the impact of internet marketing on consumer purchasing behavior, particularly in the food industry. In today’s environment, it is a study to see if online marketing is truly attracting customers using the Attention, Interest, Desire, and Action (AIDA) Model. According to our research, there is a significant relationship between internet marketing and consumer buying behavior,” said Grachiel Domingo Ancheta.

Furthermore, the research titled “Level of Motivation of Northwestern Employees,” presented by Joshua Bry Peralta Agag, Myrafel Tolentino, and Jahnise Tamayo. It focuses on understanding the employees’ motivation, which is one factor that drives a person to increase tasks and performance; moreover, the study showed that employees at Northwestern University were motivated inherently, whenever independence while working was present.

During the second day of ICMRSI, their mentors and advisers are Dr. Eric C. Parilla, COBE Dean and Vice President for Research, Community Extension, and Integrated Agriculture Development (RCEIAD); and Prof. Marc Edward Abadilla, Officer-In-Charge of BSBA and Accountancy Department, presented a research paper titled, Impacts of Covid-19 to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Supply Chain, and Business Operations in Ilocos Norte. The study was about determining the impact of the pandemic on the Ilocos Norte supply chain and MSMEs operations to give insights and concepts for building stability through improved visibility and responsiveness.

“My team did not expect any accolades because several of our co-presenters are excellent presenters, are extremely responsive, and are all professionals. We are only students and inexperienced participants, particularly at an international conference. However, as a student from Northwestern University in the Philippines, it is our time to showcase what we have been working hard for, and we must embrace the opportunity,” said Grachiel D. Ancheta.

“In other words, we give it our all when it comes to presenting our research and responding to every question, and we are grateful that our dean is also there to guide and support us during the conference. Fortunately, out of the six presenters in the breakout area, they recognized our efforts and chose our presentation as the best,” she expressed.

“It is a huge opportunity for us, as well as a fantastic learning experience. As the conference was around the corner, we were stressed and nervous, presenting at an international conference. Because the participants were from various nations, we considered how they would question us and respond to them. However, it was a great experience with great learning,” Grachiel added.

Danielle Castillo Basilio said, “It was a great opportunity to be able to participate/attend an international conference, especially since we got the award as best presenters, which was quite unexpected, and we feel blessed with this award. The international conference allows us to meet new people from different countries and learn from each other. The virtual event was successful because it was well-organized.”

According to Joshua Bry Agag, they submitted the abstract of their paper, they did not expect that their research paper would be accepted. Aside from that, they did not expect to get the award because they were the only students on their track. They were ecstatic when they saw their names flashing on the screen, saying they got the reward for being the best presenter.
