Charting New Frontiers: NWU Upholds Midyear Graduation 2024-2025

Northwestern University honored the achievements of 277 graduates during the Midyear Commencement Exercise for the Academic Year 2024-2025, held on February 7 at Aquino Multi-Purpose Center. The event celebrated the hard work and dedication of students from various programs, marking the beginning of their new journeys beyond the university.

Dr. Charliemane A. Bullalayao, Vice President for Academic Affairs, commenced the event with his welcoming address. He acknowledged the university’s dedication to quality education and the remarkable achievements of the students and faculty.

“Today is another year to toast and honor the efforts that you have contributed to the continuous flourishing of our university. However, I want to emphasize that this is not the ending, but a start of something bigger than any of us can yet fully grasp,” Dr. Bullalayao said.

Dr. Bullalayao also highlighted Northwestern University’s achievements for the past semesters including its recognition in the World University Ranking for Innovation (WURI) wherein it achieved significant rankings in the following categories: Top 4 in leadership, Top 21 in student support and Engagement, and Top 40 in industrial application, making it as Top 286 in the global ranking among universities in entire the world.

Moreover, Prof. Karl Lenin Benigno, NWU Vice President for Administration and a Political Science Professor, attended seminars on the political landscape in Southeast Asia and also served as one of the speakers.

The university hosted two AFS students from Germany and Belgium further enriching its diverse and globally engaged academic community.

“My dear graduates, function like a clock wall. We will not remain idle as it attenuates and dilutes our aspirations of becoming what our university expects of us. We will not walk the roads of unexamined life,” Dr. Bullalayao concluded.

Additionally, Atty. Ferdinand S. Nicolas, University President, expressed his gratitude and well wishes to the graduates.

“We are privileged to have received you as students and we are happy to see you off as graduates,” he stated.

The 277 graduates for graduation represented various colleges and programs within the university:

The Vedasco J. Samonte School of Graduate Studies conferred degrees upon five graduates, including two Master of Arts in Nursing, and three Master of Arts in Public Administration.

The College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology awarded degrees to two Bachelor of Science in Architecture graduates, 32 Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering graduates, two Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering graduates, seven Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering graduates, one Bachelor of Science in Geodetic Engineering graduate, and 29 Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering graduates.

For the College of Allied Health Sciences, there are two Bachelor of Science in Nursing and 48 Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science degrees.

The College of Business Education produced three graduates receiving Bachelor of Science in Accountancy degrees, one graduate earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree majoring in Marketing Management, and one Bachelor of Science in Business Administration majoring in Human Resource Development Management.

The College of International Hospitality and Tourism Management awarded degrees to one Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management graduate, two Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant graduates majoring in Cruise Ship Management, and one Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management graduate.

The College of Criminal Justice Education produced 60 Bachelor of Science in Criminology graduates.

The College of Maritime Education awarded degrees to 19 Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering graduates and 18 Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation graduates.

Additionally, non-degree programs included 11 graduates completing three-year academic requirements in Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering and seven graduates in Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation. Furthermore, in the Department of Medical Laboratory and Sciences, there were 29 Certificate in Phlebotomy along with six Culinary Arts students from СІНТМ.

As the graduates of Northwestern University take their final steps on the stage and into the world, they carry with them not just diplomas, but the lessons, friendships, and memories that have shaped their journey.
