CAS Orientation: Overstepping Boundaries, to Soar and Excel

October 27, 2021– College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) held its orientation program via Zoom Videoconferencing App with a theme “Bound to Overcome, Soar, and Excel.”

In her welcome address, Dr. Florence D. Ganir, Dean of CAS said, “Your arrival at this university marks another chapter in the story of your college life. However, this chapter is different. As we all know, we are still facing the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are doing huge adjustments shifting from our face-to-face to online classes. But I hope that in your stay here, you will discover that you have entered a university and a college that is challenging yet rewarding…Despite the threat of the virus that we are still facing at present, we continue to overcome, soar, and excel!”

Dr. Chita A. Gonzales, Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), also rendered her message to the CAS students. Moreover, the different services are also presented, such as Center for Information and Communication Technology (CICT), Guidance Center, Registrar’s Office, Finance Office, Medical and Dental Offices, Office of the Student Affairs (OSA), and Educational Resource Center (ERC). The online classroom rules are presented by Prof. Rowell L. Casil, Head of the Computer Science Department.

Prof. Rosebella T. Lacanilao, Administrative Dean of CAS introduced the E-modules to the students which are believed to be useful and student-friendly. These E-modules are published in the Canvas by the instructors and can be accessed by the students which they can download and read them offline.

After the familiarization of the E-modules was the presentation of the different departments of CAS: Computer Science, Languages and Literature, Mathematics, Natural Science, and Social Science and Humanities.

Presentation of College of Arts and Sciences Student Organization (CASSO) and interest clubs were led by Dr. Noel T. Lahip, Head of the Mathematics Department.

Prof. Michelle P. Domingo, CAS Administrative Dean and Head of Social Science and Humanities Department closes the program.
