CEAT Honors Future Builders

The College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology (CEAT) held its Thanksgiving, Testimonial, and Hard Hatting Ceremony on May 27 at the university’s Student Center to mark the transition in the academic and professional journey of the students.

The program opened with a Thanksgiving and Testimonial segment, featuring praise and worship, a Bible verse reading, and a reflective message delivered by Pastor Roger G. Galam.

Engr. Brent Angelo Raquino, a successful April 2025 Civil Engineering Licensure Examination passer, shared his testimony on overcoming financial difficulties while pursuing his degree. He credited his perseverance and faith, recalling how he managed college without a personal calculator and worked night shifts in electrical maintenance to fund his education.

The highlight of the event was the symbolic hard hatting ceremony, according to Engr. Mildred A. Ramos, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, the ceremony represents more than a tradition; it is a powerful symbol of transition. She described it as a meaningful shift from classroom instruction to real-world practice, signifying the students’ commitment to industry standards, ethical responsibility, and professional growth.

“Today marks an important milestone as we recognize your dedication and your readiness for the professional role. The hard-hatting ceremony serves as a symbolic milestone in the journey of future engineers and future architects entering the technical workforce. This ceremony fosters a deeper sense of identity and belonging within the engineering and architecture community,” she said.

Furthermore, Dr. Jennifer del Amen, Dean of CEAT, delivered an inspiring address, underscoring CEAT’s commitment to shaping leaders, not just graduates. “We don’t just educate minds—we shape visionaries. You are the next generation of builders, designers, innovators, and change-makers,” she said. “This ceremony is not only a celebration of what you’ve accomplished but a declaration of what you are yet to become—licensed engineers and architects carrying the name of Northwestern University.” She added.

Additionally, Dr. Charliemane A. Bulalayao, Vice President for Academic Affairs, officially confirmed the candidates and emphasized the importance of internships and on-the-job training in preparing students for professional life. “Carry with you the values of excellence, integrity, social responsibility, innovation, and faith in God. Wear your hard hat with pride and purpose. The world awaits what you will build: bridges that connect, technologies that transform, and futures that endure,” he stated.

The keynote address was delivered by Engr. Luisito B. Bondoc, owner of Bondoc Construction. He shared valuable insights on navigating professional life, offering five key strategies: set your goal, strategize, seek support, stay positive, and practice self-care. Moreover, he encouraged students to stick to their goals, strive for themselves, seek purpose, stay passionate, and persevere. “Ituloy yo daytoy, igaed yo para toy OJT yo, ileppas yo ket dakayto met ti umay agsao dituy sango,” he urged.

A total of 183 students from six departments participated in the hard hatting ceremony: 26 Architecture students, 95 Civil Engineering students, 16 Computer Engineering students, 2 Geodetic Engineering students, 22 Electrical Engineering students, and 22 Mechanical Engineering students.

To conclude the event, Engr. Rommel M. Agcaoili, Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, delivered his message of encouragement. “Wear your hard hats with pride. They represent your commitment to safety, excellence, and lifelong learning. Thank you to our mentors, faculty, and partners who helped you reach this point. Best of luck to all our trainees. Your future begins now,” he encouraged.
