NWU Welcomes Japanese Campers for 10th English Camp

Northwestern University welcomed seven Japanese campers for the 10th edition of English Camp 2025 with an engaging orientation program held at the university exhibit room on February 24, marking the start of their two-week educational journey.

Prof. Juan Jobelle Acosta, Dean of the College of Teacher Education, opened the program with encouraging remarks.

“Learning English can be a little scary, but don’t worry. We are here to help you,” he assured.

Beyond language learning, he highlighted the camp as an opportunity to experience the beauty of the Philippines, particularly Ilocos Norte. He concluded with a heartfelt appreciation song he composed.

Meanwhile, the Basic Education Department (BED) showcased their singing and dancing talents to welcome the Japanese learners.

Moreover, Prof. Revelina Jerez emphasized the importance of following camp guidelines for a smooth and enjoyable experience.

“We will be learning English in a very easy and basic way,” she said.

Prof. Jerez also outlined interactive lessons, cultural exchanges, and city tours. She encouraged active participation and practice, reminding campers, “English is fun. It may seem difficult, but if you love the language, learning it becomes easy,” Prof. Jerez stated.

Ms. Jennifer Daphne Abadilla, Center for Business Development and External Affairs director, introduced the facilitators, lecturers, and Japanese campers: Mei Saito, MikitoYoshiwara, Kotaro Tajima, Sota Takamori, Hayata Murakawa, Ryosuke Ui, and Shuya Hoshino, along with their affinity buddies.

Concluding the program, Mr. Shigeru Koda inspired the campers to embrace both language and cultural learning. “You communicate, and not only learn English but also connect with your buddies and experience the culture. So, please make sure that you will be different tomorrow. From today, okay? And every day, you will be changed,” he encouraged.

With that, English Camp 2025 officially began, providing Japanese campers an opportunity to enhance their English skills, build friendships, and immerse themselves in Filipino culture.
