Visions of Victory: NWU Commemorates 93rd Founding Anniversary

Northwestern University marked its 93rd founding anniversary on January 23, 2025, with inspiring messages, heartfelt worship, a commemoration of its rich history, and the unveiling of a new logo.

The festivities began at the student center with worship led by the Victory Worship Team along with Pastor Jerry Bagaoisan, who delivered a sermon centered on the theme “Visions of Victory.”

“Victory is both a divine gift and the result of personal effort guided by Jesus Christ,” he said. Pastor Bagaoisanhighlighted the importance of unshakeable confidence and urged students toward purpose-driven service, stating, “Labor not for monetary gain, but for the glory of the Lord,” he added. He concluded that a victorious life, defined by faithful service, courageous action, and rational thinking is made possible through Jesus’ sacrifice.

Atty. Ferdinand S. Nicolas, university President, followed with a call to action. Encouraging students to envision their futures and identify their passions, he emphasized, “Without vision, one merely wanders aimlessly.” He urged the students to deepen their relationship with God through prayer and envisioning their lives ten years into the future, he advised.

The morning session concluded with a solemn closing prayer, followed by the laying of a wreath in front of the Nicolas N. Nicolas Building to honor the founder of the university, Nicolas N. Nicolas. Atty. Nicolas expressed gratitude to the students, faculty and staff for their participation in the anniversary celebrations.

The festivities continued with an electrifying performance by the After 5 band. The evening culminated with the unveiling of NWU’s new logo, followed by a spectacular fireworks display, creating a memorable end to a momentous day.

The Foundation Day celebration will continue on January 30 with a 20/25 Fair at the NWU Oval. On January 31, Student’s Day will feature an Innovation/International Seminar for faculty, as well as a Battle of the Bands. In February, the NWU Foundation Anniversary Parade will take place in Laoag City on the 6th, followed by the Midyear Commencement Exercises on the 7th. The month will conclude with the Northern Philippines Business Research Conference, scheduled from February 26 to 27.
