2024 Freshmenia Plus: NWU kicks off Academic Year with a Blast
Northwestern University warmly welcomed the incoming students for the Academic Year 2024-2025 with Freshmenia Plus 2024 at the university oval on August 14, 2024. This significant occasion marked the commencement of a rewarding journey for the freshmen, heralding the beginning of their academic pursuits at the university.
Spearheaded by the Supreme Student Council, the said event began with a campus tour, attended by the freshmen from the different colleges within the university. Moreover, the event featured a performance by the Saguday Tambureros, followed by series of interactive games designed to engage the new students. The event also showcased musical performances by the After 4 and After 5 bands.
Prof. Agustina Dancel Matias, Office of the Student Affairs Dean, opened the event with a warm and enthusiastic speech saying, “Malugod naming kayong tinatanggap, mga freshman students, na ngayon ay pinili na kanilang ipagpatuloy ang kanilang edukasyon at patuloy nilang buoin ang kanilang kinabukasan dito sa Northwestern University.”
She also took a moment to welcome second-year students who had missed out on the Freshmenia event last year, expressing gratitude for their continued support. “Salamat, dahil patuloy parin ang pagtangkilik niyo sa Northwestern University. Isa sa pinakamalakas, at pinakamalaki na private higher institution,” she said. Prof. Matias reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting students on their academic journey.
Furthermore, Stephanie Jane B. Bonilla, the President-Elect of the Supreme Student Council (SSC) encouraged her fellow students to make the most of the year ahead “I hope and I pray that throughout this academic year, may we have a fruitful and productive time. Northwesternians, let us be more and do more. Let us be proud and be loud. Because at the end of the day, we are not just you, we are NWU,” she concluded.
Atty. Ferdinand S. Nicolas, University President, on the other hand, highlighted the academic year’s theme, “Visions of Victory,” and assured the students of the university’s unwavering support in helping them achieve their goals.
“Habang kayo ay nag uumpisa pa lamang, ano ba ang tagumpay natin? Lahat kayo ay magkaroon ng tanawin ng tagumpay para sa inyong buhay. Narito kami para tulungan kayo na mangyari yon, na makuha ninyo ang inyong tanaw na tagumpay para sa taon na ito, at para sa lahat ng mga taon na narito tayo sa Northwestern University,” he said.
The Freshmenia Plus concluded with a captivating performance by the Saguday Chorale, capping off the highly anticipated Hydro Party Finale, leaving students energized and eager for the year ahead.
