A great way for students to attain financial assistance in order to pursue their education is through scholarships and grants. Students can use both of these options to help defray the cost of their tuition and other educational expenditures.
The university is generous enough to give meritorious students scholarships based on their talents such as those who excel in their chosen fields in addition to their excellent academic standing. These scholarships, which are awarded to deserving students, are excellent means for them to cover the cost of their tuition and other educational expenses. Although students can apply for a variety of grants and scholarships, it is crucial to thoroughly review the conditions for each one and make sure that all required documents are delivered on time. However, the processing of these grants and scholarships must not solely rely on the students. The administration also has an important function and the consideration and approval of this matter.
The announcement of the academic scholar list is one of the most anticipated each semester. Students who have routinely performed well academically and who track their academic progress are keen to learn if they once again made it to the list. Having your name added to the list of scholars signifies not only fulfillment but also survival in the face of adversity; each semester serves as a prize for all the effort and tenacity that were nearly lost along the way.
However, sadly, a little celebration of the biggest achievement of students may have been blocked. While the university grants these scholarships to the students, just like a passenger on an airplane, students need to present a ticket to be considered for a seat, otherwise, they will not be on board. These tickets presented are complete requirements in order to be qualified for a seat โ complete academic grades that need to be submitted in order to be considered for academic scholarships.
Similar to an airplane ticket, it is not as easy as passengers may think. It’s a complicated process with lots of different systems, interactions, and regulations. Academic scholarship, too, need documents, processes, and evaluation before the approval of the administration, and then finally will be released. However, shouldnโt every document that is presented have to be scrutinized and thoroughly evaluated before it is determined to be eligible to proceed? Shouldnโt it be that the requirements and supporting documents need to be completed before it moves forward? In the event that these documents are incomplete, should it really be solely the students who are to be blamed and be sacrificed for the reward that they deserve?
Instructors and professors have their responsibilities, too, in processing the ticket. Students are not entirely at fault for their missed chance of getting into the list of academic scholars, but the instructors and professors who have not been able to meet the deadline of submitting the most important document to process the studentsโ tickets to the academic scholars’ list. Non-compliance with such will disqualify the student from an opportunity to be rewarded for their outstanding academic performance during the semester. Would that be fair to these deserving students? Who will be accountable for these? How fair would that be that the studentsโ rights of achievement is sacrificed due to the delays and negligence of their instructors and professors. They put a lot of pressure on their students to turn in assignments, complete their tasks, and fulfill their obligations as students, but they also forget that they have obligations of their own. A simple delayed submission of a grading sheet can block students from receiving the recognition and reward that they deserve.
While it is true that many students benefit immensely from the university’s funding for academic scholars, providing them with this excellent chance can also boost the number of students attending college and give them the motivation to feel driven. Denying the students this opportunity would only serve to undermine their self-esteem and discourage themโespecially if they are truly deserving of a spot and did everything they can to be rewarded at the end. These students shouldnโt be the ones sacrificed and blamed for their missed chances when all they ever did the whole semester was to perform their obligations as students.
Promptly, the University should take the necessary steps to eliminate such anomalies in the process of academic scholarships so that students who are really deserving of such benefits could be included in the limited list. The frozen spots of the first two-hundred are already in place, however, the fairness of qualification for such grants is in question. Improvements in the policies and regulations on the cutoff, and proper handling of the deadlines for the submission of grades should be practiced in order to assure that the list is as valid as it can be. It is very much unacceptable for a student who has shed every ounce of energy and effort to not be included if he/she finds it that his/her grades are very much inclined with the top spots. The blame should be aimed perfectly to the ones truly at fault; not the innocent party who only did their job excellently in hopes of attaining the benefit. The university should widen its view on this issue and try to look at this evident anxiety of its students. If an action is not done, at least they should strive to listen and investigate both sides to arrive at the best possible solution so that none would be negatively affected by the things that they donโt deserve.
