Revolving on the talks about tourism in the modern era, the College of Business Education (COBE) of Northwestern University conducted its Monthly Webinar Series dubbed as โ3surable Event of 2023: The year of Recovery and Excellent Discoveryโ on February 23, 2023 via Zoom Video Conferencing App.
Dr. Saumyabrata Nath, Assistant Professor, Training and Placement Coordinator, and IIC member in Management (International Business) Department at the Vivekananda Global University โ Jaipur, led his topics titled โDigitalization Era its Preference to Travel Destination 5.0.โ
He pointed out dearly the emerging significance of social media to the development of tourism, both in India and the Philippines. Dr. Nath also identified three important factors in digitalized tourism; ICT, social media, and how social media can be used for selection of travel destinations, and emphasized the development of technologies benefits the people in choosing travel destinations. He stated that social media has interconnected travelers and ended his lecture saying, โSocial media is still evolving.โ
On the other hand, Dr. Erkol Bayram, Associate Professor in the School of Tourism and Hotel Management at the University of Sinop, presented her lecture, โTourism and Hospitality: Trends and Future Research Agenda.โ
Dr. Bayram focused mostly on the innovative aspects of hospitality, featuring the latest technologies that helps in autonomous services of hospitality, namely; voice search and voice control, contactless payments, robots in hotels and restaurants, chat bots, virtual reality, and mobile check-in.
The third speaker, Dr. Leonardo Aureliano De Silva, had technical difficulties during his presentation and prompted to speak in the COBEโs next webinar.
Moreover, Prof. Karl Lenin Benigno, Vice President for Administration, extended his gratitude to the presenters and the participants of the webinar, and congratulated the college for the event.
โThis is yet another milestone for the university and the college as well, there are more opportunities outside than in the four corners of a room,โ he motivated.
Furthermore, Prof. Glory Domingo, Hotel and Tourism Management (HTM) department head in her closing remarks said, โIt is indeed very vital for us to learn the trends in our respective industries to become globally relevant,โ she mentioned.
โWe have to bear in mind that change is inevitable so being reactive to change will give us behind by others corruptive to change. Keep these learnings in mind because the indispensable knowledge you gain today will also serve as your foundation for your future career in the industry,โ Prof. Domingo added. The said webinar was also attended by different universities across the Philippines, with approximately 412 participants in attendance.
