Jet Ischyrion C. Villaluz, a 21-year-old BS Nursing student who bagged Mr. Laoag Millennial 2022, was among the five candidates who reigned supreme in the Mr. Laoag 2023 at the Centennial Arena on February 12, 2023.
He is a photographer and a social media manager of the House of Luxxe, a team that pushed him to go back to that big stage. As a returnee himself, the fear of rejection and losing crawled , but to prove people and redeem himself was his boosting factor to push forward and finish the game.
“Iโve always been transparent with my plans, but joining Mister Laoag wasnโt one of them. If it wasnโt for my team, I wouldnโt rekindle the fire that has been sleeping,” said Villaluz.”I got in and all throughout- I kept silent. I was one of the silent ones, the one who never speaks, the one who always observes. That was my game, to only speak when it is time to say checkmate,” he added.
Villaluz believed that achieving the end game requires deep mental planning. He emphasized that he trained himself through verbal and mental exercises as well as improving his physique in the span of approximately two weeks.
During the final round, the candidates were given the same question that was provided by the board of judges. It centered on how they are going to define masculinity with responsibility as Mr. Laoag.
“I find those two words funny because they are both contrasting, but of course, due to the stereotypes of this century. As of today, we all know that there are stereotypes or sets of standards that society wants for us. But as Mister Laoag, I will still define masculinity that starts from within. It starts from yourself, it starts with respect. I will define masculinity with responsibility, trust, respect, love and peace that is intended for everybody, ” he answered.
Villaluz is the current Mr. Philippine Nursing Student Association 2022 and Mr. Intramurals 2022 titleholder of Northwestern University.
